The most widely used method — standard in India and most countries — increments a person's age on their birthday each year. A person who has lived 3 years and 11 months is officially 3 years old; they become 4 on their next birthday. This calculator uses the same method: it counts complete years first, then the remaining complete months, then the leftover days.
In traditional East Asian age systems (still used in some contexts in Korea, China and Japan), a person is considered 1 year old at birth and gains a year at the Lunar New Year rather than on their birthday. This can make someone appear 1–2 years older than the Western age system. This calculator uses the standard international (Western) method.
When calculating from a date like 28 February to 31 March, this calculator treats Feb 28 → Mar 28 as exactly 1 month, then adds the remaining 3 days. For leap-year birthdays (29 February), the anniversary is treated as 28 February in non-leap years.
